Cai Dongdong
Based on a combined way of presenting namely installation and video, the series aims to depict the wandering, unsettled living circumstance of the artist. The artist brought together a variety of abandoned materials and waste products, transferring them into various dwellings resembling places where the homeless live. The instant the installations appear in the video in addition to varied exhibition venues, the guerrilla constructions serve as a resourceful metaphor and visualized symbol of the complicated circumstance of an individual surviving, losing its function as residing.
Throughout the desolating scenes, the presence of those personal photographs seems to empower the fictitious characters to confront the difficulties, and to carry on in the struggling search of the meaning of modern society as well as a shelter to live in. Meanwhile, it’s the photographs that enable people to endure the devastated surroundings and discover the symbolization within.
